2024 Chery Model: Disrupting the EV Market with Faster Charging, Longer Range, and More Affordable Electric Cars through Innovative Battery Technology – Car News

Chinese EV Battery Manufacturer Unveils Game-Changing Battery Technology with Astonishing Performance

Are you tired of waiting hours to charge your electric vehicle? Well, get ready for a groundbreaking development in battery technology that is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle industry. Chinese EV battery manufacturer CATL has just announced its latest innovation, the Shenxing supercharged battery, which is expected to debut on a Chery electric car in 2024. This new battery promises to solve one of the biggest challenges of electric vehicles – fast charging times.

The Shenxing supercharged battery is based on the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, which is already used in many base model electric cars like Tesla’s Model 3 rear-wheel drive. However, CATL has taken this chemistry to the next level by developing super-fast charging capabilities. In just 10 minutes, this battery can add an incredible 400km of range to your electric vehicle. That’s right, you can charge your car in the time it takes to grab a cup of coffee!

While the LFP chemistry offers affordability and uses fewer rare materials, it does come with a few drawbacks compared to the more expensive nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry used in higher-end EVs. The LFP chemistry is less energy-dense than NMC, which means it may not provide the same level of power output. Additionally, it takes slightly longer to charge and is more sensitive to changes in temperature, affecting charging times.

But CATL has overcome these limitations by pushing the boundaries of LFP chemistry. The company has implemented several innovations, including a new cathode design that enables rapid response to charging signals. They have also introduced a new graphite ring system that creates an expressway for current conduction. Furthermore, a new electrolyte formula has been developed, enhancing conductivity and improving the transmission rate of lithium ions.

To showcase the capabilities of their new battery, CATL has partnered with Chery, a leading Chinese automotive brand, to launch a sedan under Chery’s Exceed premium sub-brand. This sedan, named the Sterra ES for the Chinese market or the Exlantix E03 for export markets, is closer in size to a Tesla Model S than the Model 3. It boasts a luxurious interior and a stunning new design language. The Sterra ES is the perfect vehicle to demonstrate the potential of CATL’s revolutionary battery technology.

According to CATL, their new battery can offer an impressive driving range of 700km on a single charge, making it comparable to NMC batteries. Even at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius, this battery can still add 400km of range within just 10 minutes of charging. With such remarkable performance, CATL claims to have achieved the performance of an NMC battery at a more affordable LFP design.

The Sterra ES will be available with rear-wheel drive versions producing up to 230kW, while the dual motor all-wheel drive variants will feature a second 123kW motor and offer a jaw-dropping 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3 seconds. Combined with a drag coefficient of 0.205Cd and low energy consumption of 12kWh/100km, this electric sedan is not only powerful but also efficient.

Although the E03 hasn’t launched yet, its expected price in China is approximately AU$56,255, making it an enticing option for electric vehicle enthusiasts. However, we eagerly await the real-world tests to determine the battery’s actual performance and reliability.

CATL’s new battery technology represents a significant milestone in the electric vehicle industry. Just as the adoption of LFP batteries brought down prices for entry-level electric models, this new battery could potentially transform the viability of electric cars. With super-fast charging capabilities and an impressive driving range, range anxiety may soon become a thing of the past.

In addition to the Shenxing supercharged battery, CATL has also recently introduced an ultra-low-cost sodium-ion battery with fast charge times, albeit with lower energy density. Furthermore, the company has unveiled a condensed battery that claims an astonishing 500Wh/kg, suitable for electric passenger aircraft. These advancements demonstrate CATL’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of battery technology and elevating the electric vehicle industry to new heights.

As we eagerly await the launch of the Sterra ES and the Shenxing supercharged battery, one thing is for certain – the future of electric vehicles is brighter than ever. With CATL leading the way, we can expect more affordable, efficient, and practical electric vehicles that can truly compete with their internal combustion counterparts.

Get ready to embark on an electrifying journey with CATL’s revolutionary battery technology. The days of long charging times and limited driving ranges are soon to be a distant memory. The electric vehicle revolution is now within reach, thanks to innovations like the Shenxing supercharged battery. So, sit back, relax, and get ready for a greener and more electrifying future.
