Rust-Free 1981 DeLorean Barn Find with Only 977 Miles and Original Tires

In the vast deserts of New Mexico, a remarkable discovery has recently emerged. A perfectly preserved DeLorean, with only 977 miles on its odometer, has been found tucked away in a dusty barn. This iconic stainless steel sports car, forever associated with the Back to the Future film franchise, has become a symbol of the 1980s and a cherished relic among collectors and enthusiasts alike. It’s always fascinating to witness the revival of an abandoned DeLorean, giving it a second chance at life.

The DeLorean DMC-12, created by visionary engineer and entrepreneur John DeLorean, was a groundbreaking concept that aimed to combine style, performance, and innovation in a way that had never been seen before. With its distinctive gull-wing doors, sleek stainless steel body, and rear-engine design, the car was truly an icon of its era. However, it wasn’t just its design that captured the public’s imagination – it was the promise of time travel, immortalized by its appearance as a time machine in the Back to the Future films, that propelled the DeLorean into pop culture stardom.

Over the decades, the DeLorean has transformed from a controversial and short-lived production run in the early 1980s to a beloved classic that commands a dedicated following. Enthusiasts around the world have painstakingly maintained and restored these rare vehicles, keeping the dream of owning and driving a DeLorean alive. Recently, a phenomenal discovery was made – a DeLorean that had been sitting in a barn for over 20 years, with a mere 977 miles on the clock.

The car showcased in a video by the DeLorean specialists from DeLorean Nation on YouTube is in relatively good condition, with only minimal rust on the surface of some chassis components. Astonishingly, it is still equipped with its original tires. The experts inspect the car meticulously and determine that it is one of the very early vehicles produced, coming out of the factory in April 1981. The engine also appears to be in great shape, with all hoses intact and no major leaks. Despite being covered in dust both inside and out, and a number of unwelcome mice as inhabitants, the car is deemed to be in a perfectly restorable condition.

What lies ahead for this DeLorean? The team behind the YouTube channel strikes a deal with the car’s original owner and purchases it. Interestingly, the car was previously owned by a Chevrolet dealer until 1991 when the first registered owner acquired it. The next steps involve a thorough cleaning and wash of the time travel machine, with hopes that it will soon be ready to hit the road once again. Another DeLorean underwent a similar fate just a month ago.

The discovery of this pristine DeLorean in a dusty barn serves as a reminder of the enduring allure and timeless appeal of this iconic sports car. With each restoration, these vehicles continue to capture our imagination and transport us back to an era of style, innovation, and the promise of exciting adventures through time.
