The Pros and Cons of the 2022 Lexus LC 500: A 30th Century Fox Review

The Exquisite Design of the 2022 Lexus LC 500: A Masterpiece That Stands the Test of Time

When it comes to automotive design, the general rule is that cars start showing signs of age after about four model years. This is usually when manufacturers give their vehicles a mid-life facelift or some performance upgrades to stay competitive in the market. However, there are exceptions to this rule, like the stunning Lexus LC. Despite debuting in 2018, this luxury coupe still captivates with its fresh and futuristic design.

For the 2022 model year, Lexus has made subtle updates to the LC. The suspension tuning has been revised, and new color options are available. One standout feature is the “Bespoke Build” option, which allows buyers to customize their LC with exclusive exterior and interior design choices. The vehicle showcased here is a 2022 Lexus LC 500 in striking Nori Green paint, complemented by a unique two-tone “Manhattanhenge” leather and Alcantara interior. This unconventional combination of orange and black is unconventional, but it grows on you, accentuating the LC’s bold character.

While the design is undeniably attractive, it’s the LC’s performance that truly shines. The heart of this masterpiece is a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces an impressive 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. With a claimed 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds, the LC 500 may not be the fastest car in its class, but its performance is more than adequate for a luxury coupe. The naturally aspirated engine delivers a mesmerizing soundtrack, with an exhilarating high-rpm wail that is truly addictive.

The driving experience is further enhanced by a responsive 10-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters made of magnesium. The LC’s chassis and steering are perfectly tuned, providing excellent handling and making every twist and turn on a curvy road a joy to navigate.

But the LC isn’t just about performance; it offers a level of comfort and refinement that befits a luxury coupe of its caliber. Despite its sporty nature, the LC manages to deliver a smooth and comfortable ride even on long-distance journeys. The well-controlled suspension and tire sidewalls absorb bumps with poise, ensuring a serene driving experience. The interior is a work of art, featuring sumptuous leather and Alcantara surfaces that exude opulence. Every detail, from the metal paddle shifters to the well-padded surfaces, is thoughtfully designed to provide a luxurious experience for occupants. The seats offer excellent support, and both heating and ventilation come as standard for the front passengers.

However, the LC isn’t without its flaws. The infotainment system feels outdated, with a cumbersome trackpad interface and a lack of ergonomic touchscreens found in newer Lexus models. Making adjustments to the system can be a distracting and frustrating task, especially while driving. The reversing camera’s resolution is also subpar, and the absence of a forward-facing camera can make parking and maneuvering challenging due to the car’s long and low front end.

Another drawback is the LC 500’s fuel economy. With an EPA-estimated 19 mpg combined, the V8-powered LC is not the most fuel-efficient option in its segment. However, for those who appreciate the power and exhilaration the V8 engine provides, this trade-off may be worth it.

Practicality is not the LC 500’s strongest suit. The rear seats are cramped and offer minimal legroom, making them suitable only for occasional use or as extra cargo space. Speaking of cargo, the trunk’s 5.4 cubic feet of space is shallow and limited, making it challenging to fit large or bulky items.

In conclusion, the 2022 Lexus LC 500 continues to impress with its timeless design, exhilarating performance, and luxurious comfort. It may have received minor updates for the new model year, but its appeal remains unchanged. While it has some drawbacks such as an outdated infotainment system and limited practicality, the overall experience of driving and owning an LC 500 is nothing short of exceptional. This is a car that stands out among its rivals, a true masterpiece that defies the norm and captivates anyone lucky enough to get behind the wheel.
